Think About What You Think About
As you go about your daily activities, do you ever stop to think about what you are thinking about? This may sound confusing, but it couldn’t be simpler. You are what you consistently think about; you are becoming what you continue to think about all the time. So, what are you thinking about most of the time?
Everything in life happens twice – first in the mind, then in reality. This goes for the positive as well as the negative. Thoughts are thoughts, whether positive or negative. Your subconscious mind does not know the difference between a positive thought and a negative thought. It has no sense of humor and cannot tell if you are joking or you are serious. All your subconscious mind knows is the energy and emotion that fuels the thought; and this is what your mind will respond to.
So if you are constantly focusing on your credit card debt and not having enough money to pay them, then you are giving attention, energy and focus to debt and not enough. Guess what you will get more of in your life? You bet – more debt and not enough! Your subconscious mind only responds to the emotional energy you attach to your consistent thoughts.
As humans, we tend to put more energy, attention and focus into the things we don’t want instead of expending that energy in the things we do want. We will rally for more wars instead of being peace. We will strike about poor wages and working conditions instead of taking the stance to improve the working conditions, thus creating happier workers which could improve salaries.
Why are we so focused on the negative side of the fence? Why is it that if we receive ten compliments and one criticism, we ignore the ten compliments and dwell on that one criticism? This is the result of our past programming. Prior to the age of seven, we were like unfiltered sponges soaking up every bit of information that came our way. We were only subconscious mind then and the subconscious mind does not discriminate; it takes in everything and everything sticks. Where did we get all this information? From parents and guardians, family members, teachers and other authority figures, and of course, the media. Put a five-year-old in front of the television and soon her little mind is full of everything the boob tube can tell. The television begins to “tell a vision” to this child.
Experts say that about 75% of this unfiltered information we received before age 7 is negative. Information about life, work, money, sex, relationships, religion and people in general. We grow up with our minds full of this negative information and as adults we operate out of this same negative information. This negative information has now formed our beliefs about life, work, money, sex, relationships, religion and people in general. If we were taught that sex is dirty and to engage in it would be sinful, then this formed our adult belief about sex and relationships.
What do we do now that we have all these limiting beliefs in our heads – forming, informing and deforming our present reality? First, let go of any blame. This was no one’s fault. Our parents did exactly what their parents did and their parents before them. They were ignorant to do anything different. They did the best they could with the limited knowledge they had. You can do better today with the knowledge you have; and your children will know even more. So let go of any blame and forgive the past.
Second, take full and complete responsibility for your life right now. All you have is this present moment; the past is gone and there is no someday – only right now. You have choices in this present moment. You can choose to wallow in your limitations and in your past or you can choose to be proactive and take charge of your life from this moment on. You can choose to only give attention and energy to what you truly wish to be, to do and to have. If you desire a thriving home-based business, then choose to give all of your attention, energy and focus to creating your business.
Third, get full of the feeling of what you want to be, to do and to have. What will being, doing, and having that home-based business look and feel like? Bask in that feeling! Continue to visualize in the theater of your mind what that would feel like. Make a practice of this by doing it consistently. For so long you have habitually focused on what you don’t want. Now it is time to put all of that energy and feeling into what you truly want. Make it a new habit.
When you consistently do this practice, you will find that you are creating the reality you truly desire. Remember, everything is created twice and you have the power to choose what you want to create.
