Interview With a Jesus Taught It, Too! Author Philip F. Harris

Philip F. Harris is a spiritual author who is known for books such as Jesus Taught It, Too! and Waking God.

I was pleasantly surprised when he contacted me to thank for my review of his book.

When I received his email, I replied with an interview request and he agreed to share his wisdom with us.

1. You are an author of several awakening and thought-provoking books. Can you tell me which of your books received the most attention and why?

“Jesus Taught It, Too…” has received the most attention. The book came out, partly in response to “The Secret”. It fills in many missing gaps not covered in Rhonda’s book and responded to a lot of questions and negative comments made by religious organizations with respect to the Law of Attraction. Those who felt a kinship with the LOA, but who were also confused by religious dogma – as are many – needed a bridge to show that spiritual leaders like Jesus not only were not opposed to such ideas, but actually taught them. These teachings have been ‘the secret’, and like the purloined letter, in view for thousands of years.

2. Where do you get your inspiration for your books?

Spirit is a powerful force – it speaks to us constantly, but we often close our ears to its guidance. When I take the time to listen, the words and ideas flow. I will often read what I write and wonder where it all came from. When I perceive an injustice, that voice inside says, “Speak now, or forever hold your peace.”

3. Why did you become a writer?

I don’t think you ‘become’ a writer. You either have the ability to communicate in the printed word, or not. Others have the gift of speaking and that is their means or ‘writing’. We all have the gift to communicate – the key is simply to use it and have the berries to say what you think and feel.

4. Besides writing, what else are you involved in?

I have become a publisher. From the early experience of trying to find a publisher for my first book, “Waking God”, (which is a spiritual – not religious – treatise in the guise of a novel) it became clear to me that many people have great ideas but, if they are not connected, cannot get their ideas published – hence the creation of All Things That Matter Press with currently over 50 authors and growing. I have also been a life-long mystic and belong to numerous so called ‘secret societies’. I have also spent many years in government and education but my attention is now largely on publishing and writing (books, blogs, articles, etc.).

5. What caused you to become an independent thinker not bounded by religious dogmas?

When I was around six, I was raised a Baptist-Norther, not Southern – and the church had a boys club – something like cub scouts. It met in the basement of a church. My best friend was a Catholic and attended the group with me. One day, he told me that he could no longer come because a priest told him that since the meetings were in a Baptist church and we started the meeting with the “Lord’s Prayer”, which is said to be a bit different from the Catholics – he was forbidden to attend. That really made me angry. I then began to notice how the Church was filled at the holidays, but not otherwise, and that many who attended acted like jerks in everyday life. Thus, my fall from grace and the beginning of my questioning dogma.

6. What are your thoughts about the humanity’s current stage of spiritual development?

Mass confusion! Religion is in trouble and, to me, that is a positive thing. It was said, ‘all that is hidden, will be revealed’. We are at that stage now. There is more and more questioning and a growing interest in spirituality – the direct relationship between you and all that is and which is devoid of dogma.

The down side are those like Sam Harris who are right on the dogma issue, but wrong when it comes to the notion that science can create some kind or ‘objective morality’. Quantum physics is showing us that the observed and the observer are one and that what we perceive is only our perceptions – not particularly objective at all. I have written about spirituality as the bridge between religion and science, but it is as yet, the road less traveled.

Humanity is having a hard time breaking old dogmatic habits and this inner turmoil is reflected in the current state of socio-economic-political-religious and environmental chaos. The outer is a reflection of the inner. It seems that we are needing a hit upside the head by the Cosmic 2X4 to end the illusion. But, this, too, shall pass.

7. What is your advice to people who are stuck in life and nothing seems to go their way?

EVERYTHING goes ‘our’ way. If you turn onto a one way street it is you that did the turning. What people really have a hard time with is that they are responsible for ‘every’ aspect of their lives. No, you cannot blame genetics (see Bruce Lipton), your environment, your ailments, your government, the luck of the Irish or the roll of the dice for your status in life.

If you do not like the way you are going, you have to change it. That is the law and it works whether you believe it or not. Everyone can find examples in their life when they have done something that makes them feel good and happy and take responsibility for it. But, if things do not go the way they want – they blame something other – sorry, it doesn’t work that way. Everything goes the way you want. If your thinking is flawed, your life is flawed.

A KEY, however, is not to try to find the reasons why things may be screwed up. All that does is to perpetuate the screw ups – form follows thoughts and emotions. Instead, focus on seeing what you have (the Law of Gratitude) and what you desire and never waiver – do not put it in the future tense – do not make it conditional (e.g. if I win the lottery, then…), live, dream and act in the state of your vision and recognize that what you think you want and what you need may be different, and be ready and willing to accept the never ending flowing or positive energy – BE ALERT!

8. What are the most common “blocks” that stop people from achieving success?

I cannot emphasize this enough so I will shout it: THE ONLY BLOCK IS THE BELIEF THAT THERE ARE BLOCKS!

9. What, in your opinion, are some of the most important spiritual laws and why?

Aside from the fact that there are no degrees of importance, all stem from one single fact: The Universe is mental – and so are you! All that ever was, is and shall be – which all exist at the same time – is the result of conscious thought. Your thinking is the co-creation. The Universe is a book with an infinite number of stories in it. When you pick up a book, it contains the whole story. The page you are reading is the present. The page you read is the past. The next page is the future. But the book is complete as you hold it in your hands. You can get into the story and become a character and play your part – “all the world’s a stage”. If you don’t like the book, the character or the plot – get a new one.

10. Lastly, what are your future plans? Do you plan to write more spiritual books?

I take each as it comes. I am working on the third book of the “Waking God Trilogy”, “The Second Coming Of Humanity,” (book II is called “The Sacred Rota”). Much time is spent on publishing the works of others so I will just have to listen to ‘that voice’ to see what’s in the next chapter.

Thank you for agreeing to be interviewed by me. I really hope we will see more of your books coming out since they are very inspiring and awakening. I wish you success in all aspects of your life!
