Relation Between the Four Basic Elements and Your Zodiac Sign

(Firstly if you haven’t done my survey you should take a pen and a paper and answer these questions:

1. What’s your favourite and least favourite element out of water, fire, earth and air?

2. What’s your favourite activity?

3. What’s your star sign?

For example, I would reply to these questions this way:

1. Most like – fire; Most dislike – water

2. Spiritual development

3. Leo

With these questions answered you will have a more interesting time reading this blog post and you will be able to find out more about how different elements affect you.)

For a long time now I’ve been wondering if there’s any relation between one’s zodiac sign’s element and the elements we mostly choose in our everyday lives. That’s why I recently did a small survey about this topic.

I got 144 valid answers and so in this blog post I will disclose what my small research has revealed.

Firstly let me give you some background information about zodiac signs and elements and how they relate with each other, so that the survey results would be meaningful to you.

Each zodiac sign has a particular element. Fire element belongs to Aries, Leo and Sagittarius. The qualities of the fire element are as follows: proactive, passionate, unpredictable, adventurous and temperamental.

Fire element is active element and in it could be summarised as representing energy.

Water element belongs to Cancer, Scorpio and Pisces. Water zodiac signs’ people are emotional, flexible, usually submitting to others’ wills, loving, caring and able to cope with difficult situations in a calm manner.

Water element is passive and could be summarized by the word “emotions”.

Earth element belongs to Taurus, Virgo and Capricorn. “Earth” people are indeed down to earth, practical and involved in the details of the world. They like planning, collecting things and hard work. They think that daydreaming is a waste of time and instead busy themselves with doing something practical.

Earth element is passive and could be summarised by the word “material”.

And finally air element belongs to Gemini, Libra ande Aquarius. People of this element are thinkers and dreamers of this world. They would rather be in their own mental worlds than in this physical world which sometimes they consider cruel. They are free souls loving art and are sometimes unpredictable and out of touch with the reality.

Air element is active and could be summarised by a world “thought”.

Now some elements weaken each other and some – strengthen.

There are two combinations which weaken each other, and they are:

Earth Air

Fire Water

Because these elements don’t mix with each other or destroy each other.

And the combinations that strengthen each other are:

Fire Earth

Water Earth

Water- Air

Air- Fire

(I know there are more classifications of the compatibility of elements, but they usually include 5 elements and therefore it won’t be correct for this research.)

These four elements (fire, water, earth and air) are considered to be the building blocks of our universe. They are the manifestations of the universal intelligence.

So now as we get this background information out of the way, let me tell you my philosophy about the relation between the zodiac signs’ elements and the elements we come across in our every day lives and how they affect us.

My four elements’ theory

What I feel is that the element of your star sign is like your guide helping you to choose what’s good for you. For example, if you are Aquarius, it means your element is air and this element is compatible with fire and water, and is incompatible with earth.

So that indicates, for example, that you are better off doing some kind of intellectual or communicative work, like working as an interpreter, since this sign’s element is air and air is all about communication and thoughts. It also indicates that you should avoid doing one thing for too long or living in one place for too long, because air element’s people love freedom and exploration. You should stay away from people who are too down to earth because they will take your spirits away (earth and air doesn’t mix).

Now another thing I noticed is that people who go to the extremes of their element (for example, a fire element person is always getting too angry or has uncontrollable passions) naturally tend to do something that would bring them into balance. So a fire person who can’t control his outbursts may start going into nature more because nature is the earth element, and earth controls the fire from getting out of hand.

Or if the fire element person is too frightened to go for his goals, he can increase the fire by doing activities of air element, like reading self-help books or learning public speaking (air element is the element of thought and communication).

So this is my philosophy and here are the results I managed to gather…

The results of my research

What’s my readers’ most favourite element?

It turned out that the favourite element of my readers is water, a whopping 41% of people chose this element. Whilst only 15% chose fire as their favourite.

22% of people chose earth as their favourite element and the same percentage of people chose air as their favourite element.

Which element you dislike most?

67% of people chose fire as the element they dislike most, 16% chose earth, 10% water and only 9% air.

Out of 144 people, 51 (35%) chose their favourite element identical to their zodiac sign’s element.

21 people chose the element that weakens their zodiac sign’s element, which is 14%.

Whilst 51% (72 people) chose elements that strengthen their zodiac elements.

What’s your favourite activity?

Out of the results I got, I classified each activity as belonging to earth, fire, water or air. I managed to classify each activity according to what each element represents. For example reading would fit into the “air” category because it’s about thought and communication. Or horse-riding would fit into the “earth” category because earth represents nature and animals. And car racing, for example, would fit into the “fire” category because it’s about adventure and energy.

So 34 people out of 142 who answered this question (which is 24%) chose activities that are identical to the element of their zodiac. 49% chose activities that are compatible with their zodiac element and 27 percent of people chose activities incompatible with their zodiac element.

Is your activity of the same quality (passive or active) that your zodiac element is?

72 people, which is 50%, chose activities that correspond to their element’s passive or active quality. (E.g. Cancer (water element – passive) and meditation (passive activity)).

Out of these 72 people, 41 were of passive signs and chose passive activities, whilst 31 were active signs and chose active activities.

The relation between favourite and least favourite elements

Out of 117 people who also answered which element they least like, here are the results:

49 chose the least and most favourite elements which oppose each other (water-fire or earth-air). This represents 42%.

Which zodiac signs’ elements my readers belong to?

Air 48 (33%)

Earth 32 (22%)

Fire 33 (23%)

Water 31 (22%)

And lastly, just out of interest, here’s the list of the favourite activities of my readers:

(142 readers answered this question)

Spirituality and self help 27 (19%)

Sports 27 (19%)

Reading 23 (16%)

Other 19 (13%)

Arts 16 (11%)

Travel 11 (8%)

Communication 9 (6%)

Sex 5 (4%)

TV/Computer 5 (4%)

I hope that this research will help you to understand better the relation between your star sign and the four elements.
