The Habits Of Mind – The difference between the mind and the brain

The mind is the activity of the brain. Brain itself is just a matter and the mind is what gives life to brain.

So the brain is the tool the mind uses to express itself. Our thinking, therefore, manifests because of the mind through the physical brain.

Brain interprets what mind feeds into it.

When the person dies, he/she loses his/her brain, but not mind. Who you are therefore always stays with you, no matter if you have a physical body or not.

In the physical world, however, everything that is you is interpreted in the existing framework of things and events. Your soul, therefore, has the body and your abilities to think and feel are expressed through the brain.

The List Of The Habits Of Mind

The mind stores memory. Although we are not aware of all our past actions at this very moment, that doesn’t mean that our mind doesn’t store the memories of all our past actions. Even the events that you have no memory of can be recalled with the help of some hypnosis. This only proves that our mind remembers everything that happened to us.

The mind forms beliefs. The mind not only stores memory, but categorises it. The categories of memories represent certain beliefs. For example, if you had many unpleasant experiences with certain group of people, your mind will form a belief about that group of people which may or may not be correct. Such beliefs (which are limiting beliefs if they are negative), once formed, are quite hard to get rid of, therefore you should be aware of what’s going on in your mind when you repeatedly deal with similar situations.

The mind controls body movements. This habit of mind allows you to walk, shake your head and move your arms. The mind also controls your facial expressions. If your brain is injured, this might prevent certain signals from reaching it and thus you might be unable to move certain parts of your body.

The mind enables us to plan events. We have a habit of mind that allows us to plan events well into the future and reflect on the events that happened in the past.

The mind enables us to reason. Because of this habit of mind we are able to store memories and think rationally because our thinking is based not only on the likely events, but also on the events that did happen to us.

The mind can solve problems. The mind can solve problems because it can look for solutions in the memories as well as imagination. The mind learns very quickly from the past mistakes and events. This habit of mind comes to aid when some decision needs to be made.

The mind can control emotions. Because of this habit of mind we are able to finish crying, get angry or start laughing. It’s not true that people sometimes cannot control their emotions, although their beliefs might slightly impair this ability.

The mind enables us to speak. We don’t need to think about what we are about to say. We simply speak what’s on our mind without initial preparation. This happens because of the habit of mind to quickly interpret our intentions.

The mind makes us aware of our surroundings. Because of this habit of mind we can smell, feel the touch, hear and taste. All this data that we smell, can feel with our bodies and can taste is meaningless if not processed by our brain. Our mind interprets the vibrations of the energy into smells, sounds and tastes that we can understand and relate to.

The mind enables us to use our intuition. Our mind not only enables us to remember the past, but it also gives us a glimpse into the future. If properly developed, our intuition, as any other ability, can become very strong.

The mind enables us to see. The meaningless data is converted into the things that we can see with the use of the mind. Everything in this world is just a vibration, but because or our mind we are able to make sense of it all.

The unconscious mind holds our bodies in order. Our conscious mind can reason and make decisions. Our unconscious mind, however, has completely different abilities. It takes the data of the conscious mind as absolutely true and acts on it without any reasoning. So all our beliefs are acted on by the subconscious (or unconscious, in other words) mind. If you believe, therefore, that you are in perfect health, you will be – the subconscious mind will make your body function perfectly. If you, however, believe that you are a sickly person – get ready for numerous visits to your doctor.

The mind has a visualization function. The frontal lobe (the frontal part of the brain) has a visualization function. This habit of mind makes us able to see the events in our mind that never took place. If you visualise something constantly, the unconscious mind finally takes this image as truth and causes the image to materialize in your reality.
