How To Be Productive
If you learn how to be productive you will be able to improve your life significantly.
Being productive means being able to accomplish tasks in as little time as possible.
Do you find yourself struggling to accomplish some project?
Does your work consume your whole day? There are certain steps you can take to learn how to be productive.
Begin with the end in mind. You should never start a project without defining how it would look like upon completion.
For example, if you want to increase profits of your company, you should always understand exactly what turnover you want your business to generate.
If you fail to define an exact end product, you will end up spending far too much time doing activities of little importance. Therefore the completed project will be of poor quality.
The more clearly you see how the completed project should turn out, the more determined you will become to achieve the goal.
Give your undivided attention to your current project. No matter what project you are working on, for it to be finished in a perfect manner you need to put 100% of your attention to it. Try to block yourself from any possible distractions and always be aware of where your attention is.
Most often people go about their lives on autopilot. When they work on one project, their thoughts are completely somewhere else. Such people never understand how to be productive and always get average results.
By not giving your full attention to one project, you waste your energy on unnecessary external objects. Some of the energy goes into the project, but the rest is wasted on distractions such as unrelated thoughts, observation of the environment, or even eating whilst working. Because of that the results you get are always mediocre.
To get excellent results you will need to entirely focus on the project you need to complete. When you concentrate on one subject, you put so much energy into it that it must turn out perfect.
This is such an underestimated advice on how to be productive. When you look at world’s most successful people, you can tell that they are the best in their field only because they mastered the art of concentration.
On one hand it is very empowering to know that all you have to do to succeed is to entirely focus on one task at a time. Yet it is the hardest labour for most because many people do not have any control over their thinking process. They let any kinds of thoughts dwell in their mind which distract them from the main tasks. This, of course, brings poor results together with increasing dissatisfaction, anger and hopelessness.
Find your most productive time for important tasks. For example, my most productive time is from 5am to 7am. This is the time when I write most of the articles. I am not distracted by anyone which gives me complete control over my thinking. I do not need to labour mentally because early in the morning ideas just flow out of nowhere to me and I have to rush to record all of them.
When it gets late I have so many thoughts on my mind that they constantly intervene in everything I do. Therefore my productivity drops significantly.
Some people can be most productive whilst others are in a deep sleep at 2-3 am. That was my working time in the past. However, once I decided to try a complete shift of my working hours and I discovered that I am much more productive early in the morning.
Therefore it is worth shifting your patterns and noticing how your productivity changes depending on certain times. By such experimenting you will be able to find your most productive time, put all your efforts in that time frame, and spend the rest of the time relaxing or enjoying low energy activities.
Give yourself a deadline for the project completion. Parkinson’s law states that Work expands so as to fill the time available for its completion. That is completely true, because if you have plenty of time for one project, you are certain to get involved in unnecessary details of the project only to fill the time.
This causes you to become disengaged from the main project objective. You may lose your focus and start wasting your energy on minor project aspects. Because of that the entire work will be only average and you will end up feeling completely exhausted.
To avoid this you should put a deadline on each task you are performing. The shorter the deadline you assign, the better. The less time you have on each task, the more focused you will be to perform the task in the most efficient manner possible, focusing only on the important and eliminating the minor tasks. This will bring excellent results as the work will always be clear, concise and relevant.
Divide large project into smaller pieces until it seems manageable. Some projects may seem too big for you to accomplish. However, if you divide the project into manageable tasks you will notice that it is not as hard as you thought.
You should tackle each task separately, giving your full focus on one at a time. This way every task will be completed perfectly. By doing this you will eventually complete the whole project in an excellent manner.
Conclusion. By following the above steps you will surely learn how to be productive. This will certainly give you more free time, deeper satisfaction and greater self-esteem because you will be proud of the fact that you understood how to be productive.
