The Problem With Living In The Now
Since Eckhart Tolle published “The Power of Now” many people could not understand how it is possible to enjoy living in the now if their current reality is not even close to what they would like it to be.

Some also found it confusing to understand how they can set goals whilst only paying attention to the present moment.

I hope that this article will clarify the concept of living in the present moment.

Firstly let’s deal with the misunderstanding people have about negative conditions. Most people who are familiar with the law of attraction think that if you constantly look at what you have you will get more of it. And that is absolutely right. But you do not have to pay attention to everything in your current reality when you start consciously living in the present moment. Only pay attention to the things that you like, and ignore the rest. Be present, but selectively focus on your reality.

Also, you should always accept your reality because you cannot move on to better conditions if you resent your current conditions. Accept them as unavoidable. Understand that once you fully accept them but keep looking only at good aspects of your conditions, your circumstances will start gradually improving.

Now about setting goals whilst trying to be conscious of the present moment. The goal itself is not the most valuable thing. It is the growth experience that is the most important thing in reaching for any goal. It would be very sad to live in negativity and dismiss your present moment whilst trying to achieve some goal.

If your goal is to own a house on the beach, once you achieve it, it is not the house that is valuable. It is all the knowledge that you acquired, all the growth that you experienced that is valuable. So once you set a goal, you should always look in the direction of it, but do not miss out on living in the now.

Enjoy everything life has to offer in the present moment, but always look in the direction of your goal. Never take your eyes off the goal because you will stop the momentum. However when you feel the momentum going enjoy it to the fullest.

When you achieve something worthy, you start taking it for granted sooner or later. So if you achieve such goal by completely ignoring the present, you have nothing of value left. You have no precious moments to cherish and you don’t appreciate the growth that you went through.

However when you pay attention to everything new you learn that will help you achieve the goal, when you pay attention to how things start changing to accommodate your achievement of the goal, then, once you achieve the goal, you will have so many great moments to remember. Your life will truly be rich not only because of your achievements, but also because you will appreciate every single step you made towards the achievement of your goals.

I spend a lot of time visualising my goals. But I fully enjoy the changes in the present moment that are caused by my visualisation. If you read my article about a stickperson you will understand the following:

I even enjoy the confusion and anxiety that sets in my mind once my goal starts getting fixed in my subconscious mind. I enjoy it because I know why this happens and I know what changes are about to take place.

So don’t ignore living in the now because present moment is all you have. Enjoy it but don’t forget your goals because if you do, you will be like a ship without any destination.

Also, don’t resent where you are because you will be stuck in the negative circumstances all your life. Know where you are, accept the situation but only look and appreciate the positive aspects of it and you must soon move on to better experiences as a result.
