My Experience With SBI

On the 22nd of December 2010 it will be two years of me starting this website. Now I am getting around 700 1,500 unique visitors per day which is 45 000 visitors per month. So here’s what my experience has been with SBI…

The Good Points of SBI

Although I had quite a few websites in the past, the average time I had them for is a year. This is because I would realise that the number of visitors isn’t growing so I would become demotivated and quit.

With typical hosts you are in the dark. You cannot know which keywords are in demand and whether you will have the chance for your new website to appear in search results for some particular keyword. So basically you are just guessing which topics will attract visitors.

SBI eliminates this guesswork because it gives you the tool to see what keywords are in demand, which ones are profitable and which have the chance to attract visitors into your site. So this feature alone allowed me to attract increasing numbers of visitors.

Keyword Tool Is Optional

Now I don’t have to search for good keywords anymore and I can write about anything I want because my website has become popular so whatever I write about, search engines are most likely to rank it well. But this keyword tool got me up and running.

This tool also gave me the sense of what people are searching for and what topics are in demand. I’ve noticed a strange phenomena – some keywords, although extremely profitable and high in demand have low supply simply because of the laziness of people to put extra work. Because I chose such keywords and provided value, I made this website profitable.

Customer Service

I am especially happy with their customer service. Usually if you have a problem they answer within the same day (if it is a working day) or the next day latest. That is a really great response time compared to other hosting companies.

The representatives are always very polite and genuinely try to solve your problem. If they cannot solve your problem instantly they tell you so and keep updating you with the progress of your issue. That is really good because you know what’s happening at all times.

I’ve recently seen another great feature which I think can be handy to many. This is the SBI marketplace. Let’s say, for example, you realise that you are no longer passionate about the subject you write. You can simply list your site to the marketplace for someone to buy.

Earn Money

You can also make free money this way because… When you buy SBI package, they give you another website absolutely for free to create. You have to use this offer within, I believe, 11 months of you starting your bought package. So in your spare time you can create another website and earn from it (through google adsense and other ways).

If you are not happy with the performance of your new website, you can sell it before the year of you starting that website ends. So you will get paid for advertising and other income sources from that sites plus you will get the money once you sell it and you did not even pay for it! That’s a pretty good deal! However, I cannot guarantee that this offer will always remain.

If you are creative, you can also win free annual hosting if you participate in the SBI contest. You will basically have to create a video about your experience with SBI. If it is selected as a winner, you get a free hosting.

SBI Forums

The forums of SBI are indispensable. People honestly try to help newbies make the most of their first days and there is even a section to post your website for a review. This way you can get different insights from different people. They will point out errors and mistakes that you missed, they will tell you if the color scheme of your website is good or needs to be adjusted.

There are many forum threads including blogs, third parties, podcasts, website monetization and wish list. Each forum is very lively and many people (experts and newbies) view your thread so you are more than likely to get the answer to any question you ask.

Uploading Process and Link Exchange

.shtml files are excellent because they allow you to display the same message/ads or pictures within every page of the site. They are not complicated to use and they are fully explained in the SBI package.

When you are about to upload your page, you will have to go through the same process every time. There is a tool you will need to use which checks if your page is properly optimised for search engines and if everything is okay with your title, description and other contents of your page. It also checks if you have enough keywords on the page.

I also like the link exchange program that they have. You can choose to list your site in the link marketplace and if someone wants to exchange links with you, they will contact you and if you like their website, in a few steps you will be able to exchange links. You, of course, can contact other websites too to offer link exchange. Link exchange helps you get more traffic and your google pagerank can rise too.

How-To Videos

SBI’s in-depth videos walk you step-by-step through all the process of building your website and show the exact strategy of how to make your website popular and profitable. They offer many monetization techniques and tips on how to attract more visitors. I found their advice invaluable and follow it to this day.

SBI has a completely different philosophy to the usual hosting companies. I believe that soon there will be more companies such as SBI because traditional hosting companies will gradually die off when people start to realise that such companies only take their money but are unwilling to provide further help.

SBI videos will also explain why people fail to build high-traffic websites and give you a definite strategy to attract targeted and increasing traffic to your website.

So here are the main good SBI points I can think of. If you want to see more SBI tools, click here. Now about the disadvantages of SBI…

SBI Disadvantages

Website Templates

SBI templates are awful. I’ve heard that they are in the process of introducing some new ones and I really hope they do. Their templates are bulky and look amateur-like. I saw some nicely-done templates because they allow some adjustment, but in general they all look alike.

However, there is a way around it. My template, for example, is not from SBI. I decided to upload my own html. They have such feature for people who want to use different templates. If you don’t know how to upload your own html, use AJ templates. There are free ones, but with AJ templates you pay very little and you get loads of information and a step-by-step guide on how to upload your own html.

If something is still unclear for you, contact AJ and he will help you upload your website. You will find AJ in forums and many other people know him so if you don’t know how to contact him, just ask in forums and you will definitely get the answer.

Visitor Stats

Another problem I found with SBI is that there is no automatic visitor counting. So you have to submit your new page in the link library that you will find in your SBI dashboard. It takes only a minute to do that, but I would still prefer this to be automatic.

So what I’ve done is installed google analytics and now I don’t have to submit my pages to link library (but I still do for some reason…).

Little Blog Features

Although SBI has a blog feature, it’s very limited. It doesn’t have any built in subscriber stats or a way to monitor visitors. I strongly advice therefore that once you start an SBI blog, sign up for Feedburner and burn your feed through it. This way you will know from the beginning how many people read your blog.

Initially I had only SBI blog, which I still keep. You can view it here. As you can see, the blog is very basic and lacks many features that usual blogging platforms offer. Because of this reason I started a wordpress blog, which you can see here. I’ve set up this blog on the addon domain which can be attached through SBI dashboard.

Conclusion

In my opinion, SBI is great simply because it delivers – it gets you ranked high in search engines and you get an increasing amount of traffic. Although their hosting is higher than of other hosting companies, it’s very likely that in the first year you will make much more money than you invested (it happened to me).

What’s more important, SBI will teach you the basics of SEO and other crucially important information to have a profitable online business. So this is all I can say about my experience with Site Build It!. Now you should decide if it is good for you. Click here to learn more about SBI.
