10 Timeless Tips to Writing Unforgettable Articles

This article offers 10 timeless tips that helped me attract and retain a large readership and plenty of fans. If you apply this advice, I’m sure the quality of your articles will improve resulting in more readers, more enquiries and more customers.

1. Focus single-mindedly on writing your article.

It’s easy to tell which articles were written with split attention and which ones were the result of undivided focus. Articles written with total focus always provide clearer advice and more value. We are bombarded by hundreds of written information pieces every day, so it’s crucial to make your articles stand out. Now you know how to make this happen!

2. Create a plan.

If you don’t make the plan of what’s going to be covered in your article, your piece of work might lack structure or even logic. Writers who don’t plan their work are likely to cover more than one subject within the article. That’s never a clever move because it may confuse or bore readers. To avoid these and similar mistakes, take some time to think of a good plan for your post.

3. Write from experience.

It’s very boring to read articles written by someone with no actual experience of what they’re writing about. Articles written this way are shallow, uninspiring and common. A post written from experience, however, is deeper, more interesting and exciting. It moves people or makes them think; it causes people to want to find out more about the creator of the article. Writing from experience, therefore, is always a better choice.

4. Write something you are passionate about.

Passion shines though every piece of work, be it a house, a wooden chair or an article. An article written with passion can motivate, inspire and give hope. And no matter how hard one may try, an article written without passion can never evoke such emotions. Therefore passion plays a crucial role in the success of your posts.

5. Write in simple language

It is said that the article written in the simplest manner gets the most attention and praise. I completely agree with this observation – it proved to be true in my blogging experience. The simpler words you use, the more you help people understand your message. Although some technical words seem completely clear or even obvious to you, keep in mind that not all people have your qualifications or experience. So trust me on this one – the simpler language you use, the more your readers will thank you for it.

6. Tell stories.

People absolutely love stories. It’s probably because as children we would listen to the stories that adults would tell us. So when I write a story about what happened to me or to my friends, I always get “Thank You” emails. Your story, however, should be of value to your readers – it should teach them something or improve them in some way. Use this tool and see how it affects your relationship with readers.

7. Paint images, not abstracts.

People love to “see” your articles. By that I mean your articles should be tangible and colourful. You can make them come alive when you use words that paint an immediate picture in readers’ minds, such as “a yellow Porsche” or “a blue sky with small white clouds” or “a small white fluffy cat hiding under a dark wooden bed”. Now for all these examples I gave you, I can guarantee that you made pictures in your mind for each one of them. So will your readers. Write in this kind of way and your reader engagement will dramatically increase.

8. Talk to a reader like to a friend.

It no longer works (if it ever worked) to write from a very authoritative position, as though you are ordering people to do this or that. Instead use a softer and much more pleasant way of giving advice – give advice as though you are giving it to a very dear friend. So instead of saying “You have to think positively” you should say “It would be so much better if you would think positively”. This comes across as a non-pushy positive suggestion that the reader is more likely to act on.

9. Give something of value in every article.

When I come across low-readership blogs, it surprises me to see one common trait. The blog authors that attract low readership tend to talk only about themselves without providing any value to their readers. Sure, from time to time you can talk about what’s exciting happening in your life, but don’t do it too often. Instead I would advice to focus most of your time on writing articles that deliver massive value to your readers. This way your fan base will keep increasing and people will be truly grateful for your articles.

10. Ask yourself this timeless question…

When you finish your article, read it aloud. Then ask this question:

“Would I eagerly read this article in front of 1000 people?”

Imagine yourself standing in front of such large audience reading your article to them. How does it make you feel? Are you embarrassed? Are you doubtful? Or are your proud and happy? Your reaction to this imaginary audience will help you decide whether your article is ready to be published.
